Job Description

At Linear, we are on a mission to bring magic back to software. To empower product teams to do their best work, we are building an issue tracking and project management tool that combines UI elegance with world-class performance. Founded in 2019, Linear has become the tool of choice for 10,000+ companies to plan and build their products.

Linear was set up as a fully remote company from the start. Today, our small but mighty team is distributed across North America and Europe. What unites us is relentless focus, fast execution, and our passion for software craftsmanship. We are all makers at heart and care deeply about the quality of our work.

We believe the best stories in technology aren't just about tools and features—they're about the people building the future, their challenges, breakthroughs, and lessons learned. We're looking for an exceptional writer who can uncover and craft compelling narratives that resonate deeply with builders in engineering, product, and design. Your writing will blend deep industry insights with practical wisdom, bringing fresh perspectives on the craft of building great software products.

You'll have the opportunity to tell stories that matter to our community, whether they're about Linear or not. From deep dives into engineering challenges at high-growth companies to philosophical essays about product design, from profiles of transformative technical leaders to analysis of emerging best practices in software development—you'll help create content that becomes essential reading for builders everywhere.

Please note: We are an equal opportunity employer and remote-only company. At this time, we can support hiring within the US and in most European time zones for this role.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience writing about technology, engineering, product development, or related fields

  • Proven track record of creating compelling long-form content that drives engagement and discussion

  • Strong understanding of software development, product management, and design principles

  • Exceptional interviewing skills with the ability to draw out insights and narratives from technical leaders

  • Editorial mindset with strong story selection and development capabilities

  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with technical leaders and companies

  • Portfolio of published work demonstrating your ability to write for technical audiences

What you'll do

  • Conceptualize, research, and write in-depth articles about building great products and companies

  • Interview engineering leaders, product managers, designers, and founders to uncover compelling stories

  • Develop editorial strategies that align with Linear's mission and resonate with our community

  • Create a mix of content including long-form articles, editorial series, and narrative features

  • Build relationships with technical leaders and companies to source unique stories and perspectives

  • Collaborate with our design team to ensure visual storytelling enhances written narratives

  • Maintain high editorial standards while consistently publishing quality content

  • Help establish Linear as a trusted voice in the software development community

What we offer

  • Interesting and challenging work

  • Work-life balance

  • Competitive salary and equity

  • Employee-friendly equity terms (early exercise, extended exercise)

  • Paid lunch and coffee during workdays

  • Work remotely, no commuting to the office
