Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Specification Writer to join our team with the job location to be o n-site at WMATA premises in Alexandria, VA or New Carrolton, MD . In this role, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining technical specifications for construction and engineering projects, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with industry standards.

• Develop, revise, and maintain WMATA technical specifications and the WMATA Manual of Design Criteria;
• Develop technical documents to support design, construction, contracts, and operations processes for capital and non-capital projects;
• Prepare policy and procedure documentation;
• Maintain the most up-to-date versions of WMATA technical standards in an orderly manner;
• Conduct timely technical reviews of draft documents; and
• Perform additional assignments as directed by the WMATA Task Manager.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture or a related field;
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in preparing technical specifications and documents for rail transit projects;
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments within a transit authority;
• Extensive experience with all Microsoft Office applications;
• Ability to write clearly and professionally;
• Ability to produce communications quickly and efficiently; and
• General knowledge of rail transit agencies' design standards for architecture, engineering and construction, as well as safety and security regulations such as fixed-rail clearances, level-boarding, and OSHA policies

Preferred

Qualifications

• Familiarity with WMATA standard processes and procedures
• Professional Engineer (PE) License or Registered Architect (RA)
• Certified Construction Specifier

Additional Information

Proposed Salary: $70 - 110 k annual

Sheladia Associates, Inc. has made the best effort to accurately represent the pay range for this position, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and any applicable cost of living data relevant to the position/candidate.
