Brief Description

Vitalant Research Institute (VRI), located in San Francisco, is dedicated to advancing research in infectious diseases, blood banking, and transfusion medicine. VRI is hiring a Research Associate II to join the Research Operations Core , a dynamic and fast-paced core lab that leads and supports large multi-center domestic and international studies, including federally funded projects from the NIH, FDA, and CDC.

In this role, you’ll independently perform complex research and clinical testing, assist in preparing grant documents and manuscripts, and manage databases for large-scale studies. As a Research Associate II - Research Operations Core, you’ll get to:

  • Assist in coordinating workflow, training, and mentoring support staff.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of clinical and research procedures to generate and interpret results.
  • Oversee database management and perform basic to advanced statistical analysis.
  • Prepare grant documents, progress reports, abstracts, and manuscripts using statistical and graphics software.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation and publication efforts.
  • Manage administrative tasks such as ordering supplies and coordinating research data collection.
  • Obtain and handle health data in compliance with institutional review board (IRB) and human subjects research requirements.


Requirements

Knowledge/ Education

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent in experience and/or education required.

Master’s degree or Medical Technologist certification preferred.

Advanced-level knowledge of both basic and more complex research procedures, methodologies, and equipment required.

Advanced knowledge of experimental or study design, quality control, and data interpretation required.

Advanced knowledge of observational and clinical study designs, data collection, computer database management, quality control, and data interpretation required.

Theoretical understanding of work being performed required.

Experience

Four years related research experience required, or Two years related research experience required with a Master’s degree or Medical Technologist certification.

Experience In a Research Setting Required.

Previous supervisory experience preferred.
