Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Network Engineer to join our team in Arlington, VA, supporting the Joint Service Provider Enterprise Transport Management - Next Gen contract at the Pentagon. This role requires full-time onsite presence due to the nature of the work.
As a Principal Network Engineer, you will:
Provide expertise in network architecture and engineering for network implementations, cloud integrations, project designs, standards development, and onboarding new tenants.
Administer and support intelligent DNS routing across enterprise locations and data centers, planning and implementing necessary upgrades, including installing new equipment.
Implement approved authentication and certificate management controls to ensure secure network operations.
Leverage caching (static HTML content) for enterprise infrastructure, including hardware, software, and configuration components, as well as for supported tenants.
Support deployment options and configure network settings such as self IPs, port lockdowns, and routing protocols.
Set up remote logging to Splunk for effective monitoring.
Adhere to change management processes and procedures to maintain network integrity.
Troubleshoot, configure, upgrade, and monitor load balancer network architecture, including performance, configurations, traffic flow, application monitoring, and CPU utilization.
Analyze network alarms to identify sources of issues and work with on-site personnel to resolve them.
Use enterprise service management tools to initiate, track, and respond to service requests.
Create reports and analyze performance metrics to ensure optimal network performance.
Develop and document processes and procedures to streamline troubleshooting and quickly resolve issues.
Collaborate with OEM vendors to address operational issues and mitigate known operating system bugs and security alerts.
Work closely with information security personnel to assess vulnerabilities, identify mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with security baselines and standards.
Evaluate modern technologies and make recommendations to optimize network efficiency.
Communicate technical and customer-related issues to management in a clear, concise, and timely manner.
Adapt network architecture to meet evolving customer requirements and technological advancements.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
Active DoD Top Secret Clearance.
Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Current IAT Level II certification.
At least one of the following network certifications:
Brocade
Cisco (CCNA/CCNP)
Juniper (JNCIA/JNCIS/JNCIP)
Aruba
8+ years of experience in operating, troubleshooting, and installing network routers and switches.
5+ years of experience designing and architecting routed and switched networks, including large-scale enterprise solutions.
2+ years of experience as a senior or lead engineer in planning, designing, and building software-defined networks.
Experience working in a DoD environment.
Hands-on experience configuring and installing various network devices and services.
Proficiency in network performance monitoring, resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
Knowledge of current and emerging network design principles and protocols.
Familiarity with network virtualization technologies and multi-tenant network architectures.
Experience with a wide variety of network routing and switching equipment from multiple vendors.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Perl or Python, particularly for coding network threshold events.
