Role Summary

The Future Programs team exists to expand the definition of Electric Adventure Vehicle with new product and ecosystem solutions. We are specifically focused on addressing local transportation and the outsized impact towards Keeping the World Adventurous Forever that comes with disrupting short, high emission trips.

We are looking for an exceptional mechanical engineer to lead the mechanical development of current and future electric motors from concept through production.


Responsibilities

  • Motor design iteration between electromagnetic design and manufacturing
  • Driving decisions on motor type, winding technology, magnet material, lamination stamping and joining, electrical insulation, interconnections
  • Speed and temperature sensor design and selection
  • Linear static stress analyses for static and dynamic systems
  • Design and 3D modeling of stators, rotors, sensors, and fasteners
  • Execute a design verification process and report (DVP&R) to validate requirements.
  • Develop and maintain program-specific design failure mode and effects analyses (DFMEAs).
  • Create drawing packages and manufacturing instructions for parts and assemblies.​
  • Coordinate validation efforts between Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers
  • Collaborate with other mechanical, electrical, control, manufacturing, and test engineers to take designs from a clean sheet through prototypes and into mass production.
  • Assist hands-on in engineering prototype builds and component fabrication.​

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with CAE analysis software package like Ansys, Abaqus, Hyperwork, or similar
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of motor design variables and their effect on torque, power, speed, losses, and noise
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of material properties, heat treatment
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials
  • Experience with high volume manufacturing processes for motor fabrication (stamping, winding, welding, etc)
  • Experience with Matlab and/or Python.
  • Experience with PLM systems, engineering changes, deviations, BOM structuring, etc.​
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and toleranceing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-up analyses
  • Proficiency in hands-on mechanical integration, assembly, troubleshooting and documentation of mechanical and electromechanical systems
