Job Description

Mail Clerk Location Hinds County, MS : Summary The incumbent is responsible for the mail operation and various other related activities. Incumbent picks up mail from the post office, sorts and distributes incoming and outgoing mail. Other responsibilities include operating postage meter, insert and other machine. General supervision is received from an employee in a higher classification. Essential Functions and Responsibilities The following are examples of work performed for position in this job class and are not intended to reflect the essential functions of any one position. The essential functions of each individual position are determined and maintained by each individual department. Makes distribution of incoming and outgoing mail based on knowledge of the distribution scheme established in the office. Picks up and delivers mail from post office. Receives letters and parcels. Weighs parcels on scales and computes mailing cost based on weight and destination. Meters outgoing mail using a postage meter with a mail machine. Sorts and delivers mail to specified division/department. Picks up mail in each division/department. Delivers mail to other locations. Records daily transactions on printed form. Performs other duties as assigned. Physical Requirement Moderate Work: May frequently exert force equivalent to lifting up to approximately 25 pounds and/or occasionally exert force equivalent to lifting up to approximately 50 pounds. Speaking/Hearing: Possesses the ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening skills. Motor Coordination: While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required to stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, and bend. The incumbent is occasionally required to sit. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma, or GED, and two (2) years related experience involving mail room operations. Terms of Employment This is a non-exempt position. This is an At-Will employment position.
