Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Trauma Educator to support the professional development of nursing staff caring for trauma patients. Reporting to the Trauma Program Manager and working closely with the Trauma Medical Director, this role is integral to enhancing trauma education, ensuring quality care, and maintaining accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities

Professional Practice

Collaborate with nursing leadership and the education team to assess and enhance trauma-related care practices.

Serve as a clinical resource and expert consultant to nursing staff to improve patient outcomes.

Assist in developing hospital-wide policies, procedures, guidelines, and order sets specific to trauma care.

Address ethical issues in nursing practice and provide guidance on resolution strategies.

Organize meetings with new staff, preceptors, and nurse managers to optimize onboarding and training.

Provide individual learning plans and mentorship to support nursing staff development.

Education & Training

Conduct annual educational needs assessments to guide program development.

Develop and implement trauma-related educational programs for nursing staff.

Coordinate training sessions on new products, policies, and procedures across all shifts.

Oversee mandatory training compliance and adapt programs to emerging educational needs.

Facilitate ongoing continuing education opportunities for trauma care providers.

Trauma Program Support

Work collaboratively with the trauma team, physicians, and hospital leadership to advance trauma care initiatives.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of American College of Surgeons (ACS) Trauma Center Criteria.

Support the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager in achieving Level II Trauma Center verification.

Assist in preparation and participation for ACS site visits.

Contribute to trauma program operations, including meeting coordination, documentation, and follow-ups.

Develop and refine trauma-related policies, procedures, and care protocols.

Technology & Data Management

Utilize Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other clinical applications efficiently.

Manage incident reporting through web-based systems.

Work with payroll software for administrative tasks.

Provide training on biomedical equipment used in trauma care settings.

Professional Development

Attend at least one professional development program annually.

Mentor nursing staff in clinical advancement, certification, and educational growth.

Maintain clinical competence in trauma nursing and pursue required certifications.

Stay actively engaged in professional nursing organizations.

Collaboration & Teamwork

Partner with various departments to assess and enhance trauma-related education.

Serve on committees and contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives.

Foster positive working relationships with all hospital staff and clinical partners.

Maintain open communication with nursing teams to ensure effective patient care coordination.

Conduct regular rounds to support staff on all shifts and relay needs to leadership.

Performance Improvement & Accreditation

Participate in trauma program performance improvement initiatives.

Develop and lead at least one project aimed at improving trauma nursing practices.

Monitor and contribute to patient satisfaction efforts.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

Master's in Nursing (MSN) preferred or currently enrolled in an accredited MSN program.

3-5 years of clinical experience in trauma care, critical care, or emergency nursing.

Strong background in trauma nursing education and program development preferred.

Experience with data management and Excel required.

Certifications:

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required.

TNCC Instructor/Director certification within 12 months of hire.

Familiarity with Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) training.

Teaching experience or instructor status preferred.
